Had a interesting experience this morning. I've yet to write up my full iPhone experience, but here's a early sneak peek.
I was working to get my iPhone connected to my home Wifi network. I have a old-skool Linksys WRT54G router running the DD-WRT firmware. I do that because I'm a linux geek and I like to have absolute control of my router. I run my wireless security under a WPA Pre-Shared Key, without broadcasting my SSID. Granted, I'm the only person on my block who runs wireless (yeah, I checked), but I like being secure.
I initially had to manually configure my Wifi network on my iPhone because I wasn't broadcasting my SSID and my network wasn't being picked up. Somehow, I got a few wires crossed and was completely unable to connect to my network.
I followed all of the instructions online about rebooting my router, rebooting my phone and nothing worked. Finally, I discovered the reset option under General Settings.
From the Home Screen, I clicked on "Settings". From there, I scrolled down to "General" and clicked on it. From there, I scrolled to the bottom, clicked "Reset", then "Reset Network Settings". After accepting the warning that I was doing something dangerous and clicking the giant red button, the iPhone started buzzing and shaking and generally throwing a fit. After it was done getting reset, I simply went back into Settings -> Wifi, saw my network, connected and it worked!
So, if you're *still* having trouble with the iPhone v1.0.2 Wifi, reset your network settings. That did the trick for me.

i had similar problem with wifi, keep disconecting. try reboot and everything. until i uninstall that boss prefs toggle from cydia and reboot. after that it wifi is back to normal and worked fine
PUT IN FRIDGE...
Seriously... A lot of people are having problems with overheating wifi chips. Put it in a bag, switch it off and leave it in the freezer for 20 minutes. Take it out and see if it now connects. If it does it wont for long - maybe 10 minutes or so cos your wifi chip is fried. Take it back to Apple and get a new phone or get the wifi chip changed.
RESET ALL SETTING WORKS BETTER. you will have to re-tweak the home screen, etc, but it is worth it.

Wow - that totally worked, a million thankyous!
I have a 2g, unlocked and jailbroken. And the wi-fi options in Settings is greyed out. Doesn't work with another T-Mobile SIM which is also used on a jailbroken and unlocked phone and they have no problems with theis wi-fi. Reset network settings has no effect. Any ideas. running 2.2.1
I BOUGHT AN UNLOCKED JAILBROKEN 2G IPHONE FOR MY SON.
Ever since we bought it home it will not connect to the wifi.
I also have an iphone 2G and have no problems connecting. I have gone to my router site and seen how many units can be connected at one time, I have rebooted, restored and jailbroke and unlocked again, and nothing seems to work.

I picked up an iphone yesterday. I have a thompson router and eventually managed to pick up wifi on the phone. I turned the PC and router off last night, and turned it back on again this morning, and my iphone picked up the signal as soon as the router was turned back on. But tonight, I cannot get the connection. When my wifi eventually appears in the 'choose a network' box, it doesn't like the password for some reason; not sure why it didn't connect automatically as before. Even my PS3 cannot connect now either through the router. The internet on the PC still works fine though.
Any suggestions? Cheers.

ANY HELP PEOPLE ????
I was worried a lot abt this problem...And i tried to get my wifi worked on my iphone..atlast i got it after reading ur article..THANKYOU SO MUCH
Ok so I dropped my first iphone and got a new one. I want to use my old iphone as an itouch. Is there anyway I can make my apps or the safari work? It says "No service" so it currently doesn't do anything that requires somekind of connection.. Help please..
if you have wireless internet, you should be able to connect and safari and all other internet related applications should work.
I tried everything also. Nothing is working for my 2g phone. The wifi still does not recognize my connections and if it does (rarely) it disconnects pretty fast. All these issues started when I upgraded to 1.1.3 last year. Any solutions? I know have 2.2 jailbroken with pwnage and still the same issue.

I figured it out...2.21 is the culprit here not the hardware. Restore to 2.2 and jailbreak with quickpwn. Wifi works now and stays connected...my sim chip is fried too somehow. But im glad ive fixed it...

Thank you so much. After googling so much about how to fix this problem, this article actually gave thorough information!
A thousand thanks!!!! This little piece of info fixed my problem too! I had connected to my parents wifi - it said I was connected in Settings, but I could only get 3G or E to show at the top left. I am most grateful.
Thanks for the tip. This worked for me and solved another problem entirely. I have returned 2 head sets because the remote stopped working. After losing the third headset, I bought a fourth pair. All was working fine and then 2 hours later they stopped working!!!
At the same time, I was no longer able to log onto my home wifi network? After resetting the network as you suggested, my headphones are working and the speed of my iPhone is also better (before it was running really slow when opening my iPod and the Settings).
Thanks!

Thanks, thanks, thanks,
Long live the democracy of the Internet !
thanks
Thanks for the blog post. The network settings reset on the iPhone in conjunction with checking "ask before joining networks" has two iPhones on the straight and narrow again.
After 5 months without wifi on my iphone ever since I used ziphone to unlock my iphone, I finally figuered it out and fix it, here is what I did in summary after many different attempts(tried every solution from online post), here is my 2009 stimulus package for my iphone:
1. I restored to 2.2.1(5H11) firmware and use Quickpwn to unlock it.
2. wifi still not connecting correctly? I reset the "network settings" on iphone, if not work, I set my wireless router to no encryption, then reset iphone "network seetings" again and again until it sticks to wifi connection. First it didn't stick 100%, it was like on and off periodically.
3. Goto "Cydia" downloaded tool call "BossPrefs"
4. Goto app "BossPrefs" turn off the "edge" and keep the wifi. At current stage the wifi still drop connection periodically.
5. Restart wireless router(no encryption still) and reset my iphone "network settings". Go to "BossPrefs" to turn off edge again and keep the wifi because "BossPrefs" reset itself. Now I saw the connection persists.
6. Restart my wifi wireless router and set it to wpa or wpa2 encryption.
7. Reset my iphone "network settings" again(it's a pain but it helps) and type in the password for wifi and a miracle happened, wifi sticks, no more dropped connections, I can even use youtube on my iphone again and leave my itouch collecting dust.
8. I then go to iphone "Cydia" and downloaded half of the ring tone on my iphone and tried it out...awesome!
Hey, i tried everything you said, but i'm still unable to connect. It doesn't even recognize available connections. and when i go in Boss prefs, N/A is indicated next to the WiFi switch. Could you think of any reason it could do that?
Thanks for your help!
